I retired from a 14-year modelling career
to become a cage fighter and teach self-defence
(but not the kind you think!)
I’m also a sea monster expert.

ABOUT ME

PART 1
INTERNATIONAL MODEL

I was studying Creative Writing at university when I was spotted by a talent scout and went straight into a modelling career that lasted for 14 years.

The classical pre-Raphaelite aesthetic that became my bread-and-butter kept me reasonably safe from the impossible body trends of the 2000s, and gave me the chance to appreciate the beauty in the stranger parts of the world.

I spent most of my time exploring the rusted shells of abandoned buildings, on runways in underground clubs, and in the different wildernesses of Europe, and I started a blog to document my adventures.

Writing has always the way I make sense of life, so when I encountered a dangerous photographer at a photoshoot, it made sense to write about him in my blog…

PART 2
SPOKESWOMAN

The person I outed turned out to be a notorious sexual predator with a hell of a victim list, and we took it all the way to court. Against the low odds, terrible conviction rates in the UK, and the stereotypes that come with the modelling industry, he was jailed for 7.5 years.

When the press discovered that he had learned photography while previously in jail for rape, the story went international and I became a spokeswoman overnight.

I’m good with words, but it hit home just how badly women can be treated when they aren’t. People who face any kind of stereotyping all tend to know that if you want to be heard, you first have to dispel whatever myths and misconceptions your audience believes. So I started blogging about how to confidently stand up for yourself, and get a personal army together to stay safe as a group. It worked…

PART 3
SELF DEFENCE
QUEEN

My writing career took off and I modelled a little less, but documenting my postapocalyptic shooting locations caught the attention of the performance group The Wasteland Warriors, and I joined as a cage fighter.

In between our shows, writing for magazines, and the occasional model booking, I testified against another predatory photographer, who was jailed.

There aren’t as many modelling industry creeps as the media portrays, but the ones that exist are prolific, yet I was encountering fewer than before. I wondered if I was doing something to put them off, and if so, could it be taught?

I started exploring combat psychology and the wider world of self defence, and that’s how Armour For Life began…

PART 4
WHAT'S NEXT...?

I want to make you the most badass person you know. I have plans for collaborations, workshops, and wilderness, so I’ll be updating here regularly, as well as my social media. Outside self-defence, I have an action-packed life and there’s always something exciting happening!

I do occasional photoshoots exploring the wilder parts of the world (I travel a LOT), I was a researcher for one of the biggest true crime channels around, and I mostly write for a living. You can read my work in publications like Mental Floss, Atlas Obscura, and Screen Rant, and my love of sea monsters got me a book deal that took me to the Amazon Top 10 while the national news dubbed me a “sea monster expert”.

Right now, I’m working on my second book, and I’m about to cross the Atlantic Ocean on an exploring mission.
